Schumer Statement On Final Passage Of Historic Bipartisan Coronavirus Response Legislation That Puts Workers And Public Health First

Washington, D.C.Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released the following statement after the House passed in a bipartisan way the historic Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act:

“With this bill, Congress has established strong, comprehensive programs—like a Marshall Plan for our hospitals and health system, help for small businesses, unemployment insurance on steroids, strict oversight, transparency and accountability measures and more—that put workers and people and our public health first. This legislation, while not a panacea, will address many of America’s vital, immediate health and economic needs.

“What the Congress cannot do is implement these well-constructed programs, so now it’s up to President Trump to execute them quickly, effectively, and in the manner in which they were drafted—to help the American people. We ensured that the federal government has the resources and tools they need to make it happen, and we will be watching President Trump minute by minute to make sure he and his administration do it right.”
