Majority Leader Schumer Statement Calling On Hamas To Accept Temporary Ceasefire Offer

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement regarding the proposed temporary ceasefire that has been negotiated, urging Hamas to accept the offer:

“While Israel has made significant compromises to reach an agreement, Hamas has repeatedly walked away from the table and continues to attack Israeli civilians.

“The region has the potential for a respite in the fighting, a return of hostages, and a surge of humanitarian aid, but the onus is on Hamas, as it has been for months, to say yes.

“The time has come for Hamas to accept the temporary ceasefire that has been negotiated. If Hamas continues to reject the opportunity for a temporary ceasefire, they alone will bear the responsibility.

“Among those held hostage for over 200 heartbreaking days, are Americans and New Yorkers. We must bring them home now, there is no time to waste.”
