Majority Leader Schumer And Senator Warren Statement On President Biden Canceling $1.2 Billion In Student Debt For Over 150,000 Borrowers Under SAVE Plan

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) today released the following statement on President Biden canceling $1.2 billion in student loan debt for over 150,000 borrowers under the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) repayment plan:

“We’ve urged the Biden administration to do everything in its power to cancel as much student loan debt as possible. And today, President Biden announced over 150,000 borrowers will have $1.2 billion in debt canceled under the SAVE Program, bringing the total number of Americans who’ve had their student loan debt canceled by this administration up to nearly 4 million. We have more work to do to cancel even more student debt, but today is a good day and we applaud the administration for continuing to work with us to help working families and particularly minority communities free themselves from the burden of this crushing debt.”
