Schumer Statement On The Release Of January Jobs Report And Congress’s Responsibility To Act Quickly To Provide Serious COVID Relief

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement today regarding the January jobs report showing the need for quick action on big and bold emergency COVID-19 relief:

“Today’s distressing jobs report underscores the urgent need for Congress to act quickly to deliver big and bold emergency COVID-19 relief to overcome the most serious economic and public health challenge our country has faced in the last century.

“One year after COVID-19 arrived on our shores, our economy remains well below where we were when the pandemic began, unfortunately, still down 10 million jobs. The December down payment passed by Congress helped stop some of the economic bleeding and keep families out of total financial ruin, but any further delays in delivering relief will only make our road to full recovery longer and more painful for families all across the country. Democrats will not make that mistake.”
