Schumer Statement On Senate’s Bipartisan Vote On Amendment To Require Congressional Approval Before Any Military Funds Could be Used For A War With Iran

June 28, 2019

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released the following statement regarding the bipartisan Senate vote on an amendment to require Congressional approval before any military funds could be used for a war with Iran:

“A bipartisan majority of the Senate today sent an important message to President Trump: you do not have a blank check to pursue another endless war in the Middle East.

“Just last week, the world saw that the president was just minutes away from bumbling into a war. Today’s vote shows that a bipartisan majority believes he should come to Congress before bogging the country down in an endless war.  Over the coming weeks, I will urge the House to adopt its own version of this amendment in the House NDAA and then we will work to ensure it is included in the NDAA conference report.”
