Schumer Statement On Sen. McConnell’s Call To Cut Medicare, Social Security, & Medicaid To Reduce Deficit Created By GOP Tax Cut For The RichOctober 16, 2018
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement regarding Leader McConnell’s recent comments on rising deficits:
“Senator Mitch McConnell, President Trump, and their fellow Republicans blew a 2 trillion dollar hole in the federal deficit to fund a tax cut for the rich. To now suggest cutting earned middle-class programs like Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid as the only fiscally responsible solution to solve the debt problem is nothing short of gaslighting.
“As November approaches, it’s clear Democrats stand for expanding affordable health care and growing the middle class, while Republicans are for stripping away protections for people with pre-existing conditions and cutting Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid to fund their giveaways to corporate executives and the wealthiest few.”
