Schumer Statement on Reports of GOP Tax Proposals Favoring The Wealthy

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer released the following statement in response to reports the administration plans to cut taxes on the wealthy, and Secretary Mnuchin backing away from his statement that there would be no tax cuts for the "upper class":

“Democrats have strongly and firmly stood for the position that not one penny of tax cuts should go to the top 1%. If Republicans push a tax bill to please their hard-right wealthy contributors, instead of working from the middle, they will have the same trouble with taxes that they're having with health care. We urge our Republican colleagues to pursue a mainstream tax reform package, rather than the partisan tax cuts demanded by their donors.”
