Schumer Statement On House Passage Of Amendment To Require Congressional Approval Before Any Military Funds Could Be Used For A War With Iran

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released the following statement on the House adoption of an amendment by Reps. Ro Khanna and Matt Gaetz to prevent funds in the NDAA to be used for a war with Iran without legislation from Congress authorizing military force against Iran, or if the U.S. is attacked. On June 28, the same amendment was supported by a bipartisan majority in the Senate.

“I applaud the House for adopting this important amendment that sends a clear message to President Trump, who was minutes away from bumbling into a war, that he does not have a blank check to pursue another endless war in the Middle East. This same amendment was supported by a bipartisan majority in the Senate two weeks ago. We will fight to include this provision in the NDAA conference report.”
