Schumer Statement On DOJ Inspector General’s Report Finding No Political Bias In FBI’s Russia Investigation

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released the following statement on the report stating the Department of Justice’s Inspector General found no political bias in the FBI’s investigation of connections between President Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia:

“The DOJ Inspector General’s report makes clear that the predicate for the FBI’s investigation was valid and without political bias. This report reiterates the conclusions of the Intelligence Community that Russian President Putin directed his intelligence services to interfere in the 2016 elections in favor of Donald Trump. Our country would be better served if President Trump, AG Barr, Republicans in Congress, and their supporters stopped pushing baseless conspiracy theories and instead worked in a bipartisan fashion to ensure the FBI and the Intelligence Community have the full support and resources necessary to stop Putin and any other foreign adversary from interfering in the 2020 elections.

“Whether it’s the three years they spent embracing a baseless conspiracy or recent examples of promoting Putin’s false talking points, it’s sad how, in an effort to protect the president at all costs, the ‘Grand Old Party’ in the Senate is becoming the ‘conspiracy caucus.’”
