Schumer Remarks on Trumpcare: Seniors, Women, Millennials, & those with Disabilities will Pay More for Less Coverage

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today delivered remarks during a press conference on how seniors, women, millennials and those with disabilities will pay more for less coverage. Below are his remarks as delivered:

Hello everybody, good morning. Thank you for coming, we  arranged for some nice weather, even though there are cloudy days ahead if health care passes, if TrumpCare passes.

I want to thank everyone for coming. my colleagues, Senators Stabenow and King and our great Senator from Maryland is joining us, thank you Chris Van Hollen.

They are going to be leading the fight in their states, as we all are, to ensure Americans get more affordable care, not less.

I want to thank our guest speakers who you will hear from in a few minutes. These are the people who will be hurt by TrumpCare - and millions more like them. And that is why we are here.

Now, what is TrumpCare? TrumpCare, simply put, is a mess that  gives you less for more.

And TrumpCare doesn’t discriminate against which Americans it hurts.

Are you a millennial? TrumpCare means higher costs and less coverage.

Are you a senior? TrumpCare means higher costs and less coverage.

Are you a woman? TrumpCare means higher costs and less coverage.

Are you or is someone in your family living with disabilities? Trumpcare means higher costs and less coverage

In fact, TrumpCare is really a tax break for the rich, not a health care program, that’s the real motivation of so many of our Republican colleagues. To take people whose income is above $250,000 dollars and give them an average tax break, to take the top .1 percent and give them an average tax break of  $200,000 dollars while making these people pay more. It’s horrible.

President Trump has talked about helping working America, but the plan he has embraced, TrumpCare, helps the rich and hurts the average American.

And that is not surprising given all the other things that his Administration is doing. This administration has developed a pattern, – healthcare is part of that – they talk like populists but act like those helping wealthy special interests time after time after time.

Look, no one likes this bill, hospitals, doctors, governors, conservatives, liberals, nonpartisan groups, and most of all, the people who will no longer have affordable health care. So we Democrats are here today to tell our Republican friends, turn back, drop this irresponsible plan. Stop this effort to repeal, and we’ll work with you to improve the Affordable Care Act.

But TrumpCare is a loser for just about all of America, unless you’re in the top 1 percent

Now, I am going to turn it over to Senator Stabenow or Senator King because he has to go to a hearing.
