Schumer: Leader McConnell Must Allow Debate And Amendments On House-Passed Bills Instead Of Keeping Senate A Legislative Graveyard For Middle-Class Priorities

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement regarding Leader McConnell’s ongoing refusal to allow debate and amendments on House-passed bills, a move that stymies progress and makes the Senate a legislative graveyard for middle-class priorities:

“The self-proclaimed ‘grim reaper’, Leader McConnell has turned the Senate into a legislative graveyard that hurts the Senate, hurts the middle class, and hurts the country. Leader McConnell ought to allow debate and amendments immediately – which Democrats would welcome – on commonsense, House-passed bills on democracy reform, combatting the gun violence epidemic, health care, and so much more. The Senate must once again become a legislative body that helps the American people, not a graveyard.”
