Pelosi, Schumer Announce Additional Details for Lying in State of The Honorable Robert J. Dole

Washington, D.C. – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer today announced additional details for the lying in state of The Honorable Robert J. Dole in the United States Capitol Rotunda on Thursday, December 9, 2021 and Friday, December 10, 2021.

  • A formal arrival ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m. ET on Thursday, December 9th.
  • A Congressional tribute ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, December 9th.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony will be open to invited guests only.  President Joseph R. Biden will offer remarks.
  • Lying in state will last from 12:00 p.m. ET until 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, December 9th.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public viewing.
  • A formal departure ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. ET on Friday, December 10th.

The Honorable Robert J. Dole served with distinction in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded two Purple Hearts for his valor.  He then went on to represent the people of Kansas for four terms in the U.S. House and more than four terms in the U.S. Senate, where he led the Senate Republican Conference for more than a decade.  Senator Dole was a leading advocate for Servicemembers, veterans and military families, and inspired millions with his leadership on behalf of Americans with disabilities.
