One Year After Introduction, The Inflation Reduction Act Passed By Senate Democrats Is Continuing To Spur Historic Investments Across The Country
Washington, D.C. – The Inflation Reduction Act is already paying huge dividends for the American people – in the last year, dozens of companies have announced they will invest in the United States, creating jobs, supporting our economy, and bringing back American manufacturing. More than $500 billion in investments in the United States have been announced under President Biden according to the White House. According to one report, “nearly 80 major clean energy manufacturing facilities have been announced, an investment equal to the previous seven years combined.” From electric vehicle manufacturing to increasing production of clean energy and all the jobs and investments created as a result, states across the country are seeing the impact of this historic climate legislation.

Alabama
Business Facilities: Nucor Plans $125M Advanced Manufacturing Facility In Alabama. “Nucor Corp. will invest approximately $125 million to open a new advanced manufacturing facility in Decatur, Alabama. The new business unit, Nucor Towers & Structures, will produce transmission towers. Nucor, which already has a significant presence in Alabama, plans to create 200 full-time jobs over the next four years at its new facility.” [Business Facilities, 2/23/23]
CNBC: First Solar Selects Alabama For New Factory As Inflation Reduction Act Prompts Domestic Manufacturing Boom. “First Solar said Wednesday that it has selected Alabama as the site for its fourth U.S. solar panel manufacturing facility, after the Inflation Reduction Act and its incentives for domestic manufacturing encouraged companies to onshore production. First Solar will spend around $1.1 billion on the facility in North Alabama’s Lawrence County. The company announced plans for a new facility in August, but hadn’t yet disclosed the location. The Center Square: First Solar-Powered Cobalt Factory In The U.S. Planned For Yuma. “EVelution Energy is building the first U.S. solar-powered cobalt processing facility in Yuma County, Arizona. Construction is expected to begin in 2024, with the facility fully operational in 2026. The $200 million investment will provide approximately 300 construction jobs and 60 on-site jobs. NY Times: LG Will Spend $5.5 Billion on a Battery Factory in Arizona. “A South Korean battery manufacturer said it would quadruple its planned investment in a new factory in Arizona to meet growing demand from automakers who are trying to ramp up production of electric cars and trucks. The company, LG Energy Solution, said it would invest $5.5 billion to build the manufacturing complex near Phoenix, where it plans to make batteries for electric vehicles in 2025 and for energy storage systems the following year. LG said its decision was driven in part by the Inflation Reduction Act, which became law in August and included federal incentives for the sale and production of electric vehicles and batteries in the United States.” [NY Times, 3/24/23]
ABC 15: New Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Plant Planned For Pinal County. “Ecobat, one of the largest battery recyclers globally, has made plans to locate its first North American battery recycling facility in the Phoenix metro and bring 60 new jobs to the area. The company announced that the facility will be located in Casa Grande and is Dallas-based Ecobat's third lithium-ion battery recycling facility. The new location will produce an estimated 10,000 tons of recycled material per year with plans to expand capacity.” [ABC 15, 2/22/23]
Tuscon.com: Maker Of High-Energy Electric Vehicle Batteries Expanding In Tucson. “Sion Power Corp., a Tucson-based developer of next-generation lithium batteries, plans to double the size of its local operations as it rolls out new, high-energy batteries for electric vehicles. Sion plans to expand into a 111,400-square-foot building at 6950 S. Country Club Road, while keeping its existing headquarters on East Elvira Road where more than 100 employees work. AZ Inno: $1 Billion Battery Manufacturing Plant Proposed For Southern Arizona. “Utah-based American Battery Factory is planning to build a $1.2 billion battery manufacturing plant in southern Arizona across 267 acres, according to Pima County documents and the startup. Bloomberg: Startup Behind Made-in-US Battery Plant Raises $75 Million. “Startup Kore Power, Inc. has raised $75 million of an anticipated $150 million financing round to fund construction of a lithium-ion battery factory in Arizona, betting the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act will boost demand for US-made cells.”…“The company plans to break ground on its KorePlex factory near Phoenix next month, with cell production scheduled to start in late 2024.” [Bloomberg, 11/30/22]
KGUN 9: Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Facility To Open In Eloy. “Heritage Battery Recycling has announced plans to build a lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Eloy, Ariz., bringing approximately 110 permanent jobs to the area, according to the Arizona Commerce Authority. The company expects the facility will be in operation by mid-2023. Andy Beshear on Thursday announced that Rivian, an electric truck and SUV-maker, is creating over 200 job with a $10 million investment in Bullitt County. The EV maker will establish a remanufacturing facility in Shepherdsville, where it already stocks replacement parts at an existing 326,000-square-foot facility. Shreveport Times: A Company Is Expanding Their Footprint In Shreveport By $28.5 Million. “On Tuesday, Prolec GE USA announced it would be investing up to $28.5 million to expand its Caddo Parish facility to manufacture electrical transformers used in wind farms, solar parks and other industrial and renewable energy applications. Prolec is one of the largest transformer productions in North America and designs, manufactures and sells products for electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
