Majority Leader Schumer Statement On Co-Sponsoring S.J. Res. 1 And The Senate’s Continued Push To Ratify The ERA As The 28th Amendment To The Constitution

New York, N.Y.   U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement on joining as a co-sponsor of S.J.Res. 1, led by Sens. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), calling for an end to the arbitrary deadline preventing the Equal Rights Amendment from becoming the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution:

“Women in America deserve no less than a guarantee that the freedoms bestowed by the Constitution apply equally to everyone, regardless of gender. Congress must strike the arbitrary deadline on the ERA and ratify the 28th amendment to the Constitution. The ERA is a long overdue covenant for equality in America, and there must be no expiration date on equality.”
