This week, the Biden Administration announced thirty one Tech Hubs across the country. These Tech Hubs were made possible by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act led to passage by Leader Schumer and Senate Democrats and signed by President Biden. These Tech Hubs will drive job creation, bring manufacturing back from overseas, and boost American competitiveness in communities across the country.

Alabama

Alabama Political Reporter: Birmingham scores Federal Tech Hub Spot, competes for $75M funding boost. “Today, Birmingham proudly takes its place among 31 regions announced as a federal Tech Hub, competing under a program with the potential to pour $75 million into the local economy.” [Alabama Political Reporter, 10/23/23]

KDVR: Colorado designated as federal technology, innovation hub. “Colorado’s technical businesses and scientific advancements have been shared across the world — and out of this atmosphere — and now those accomplishments have been federally designated. In April, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) announced a new public-private initiative, TechHubNow!, to position Colorado for designation as a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Tech Hub) under the CHIPS and Science Act. Philadelphia Business Journal: Philadelphia receives biotechnology hub designation from Biden administration. “The U.S. Department of Commerce on Monday named Philadelphia one of 31 tech hubs across the country that are now eligible for up to $500 million in federal funds to help increase innovation in more corners of the country. The Greater Philadelphia Region Precision Medicine Tech Hub scored the designation to advance biotechnology precision and prediction. The coalition consists of more than 50 organizations across New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania and is led by Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Indianapolis Star: Indiana group lands regional tech hub status. Here's why that's a big deal. “Indiana’s Applied Research Institute secured another massive economic development win for the state Monday after a federal agency designated Heartland BioWorks, a group of Indiana stakeholders, as a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub. The designation, from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, allows Heartland BioWorks to compete for up to $75 million in grants later this year, according to a Monday news release.” [Indianapolis Star, 10/23/23]

WXIN: The federal government chose Indiana as one of more than two dozen tech hubs across the country. The U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration designated Heartland BioWorks as a regional technology and innovation hub. Bloomington-based Applied Research Institute Inc. made the announcement Monday. Louisiana

The Advocate: Louisiana wind energy coalition earns coveted Tech Hub nod from Department of Commerce. “A Louisiana wind energy consortium, led by a flock of education, business and government institutions, has been named a Tech Hub by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, federal officials announced Monday. The Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind Propellor, or the GLOW Propellor, was one of 31 coalitions — out of nearly 400 applicants — to receive the coveted Tech Hub designation, according to a Department of Commerce news release.” [The Advocate, 10/23/23]

WVLA: LSU-led group named as energy tech hub by President Joe Biden. “A Louisiana State University group has been listed as a tech hub in President Joe Biden’s efforts to grow and strengthen the economy. According to Biden and the Economic Development Administration (EDA), an LSU-led group, Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind (GLOW) Propeller, was chosen among 31 tech hubs to update American manufacturing, create jobs and strengthen the nation’s economy and national security within 10 years.” [WVLA, 10/23/23]

Portland Press Herald: Maine is named a forest bioproducts tech hub, opening door to investment. “Maine has been designated a federal Forest Bioproducts Tech Hub and could receive $50 million to $75 million to accelerate research and development of natural polymers and other wood fiber bioproducts to replace plastics and toxic chemicals, Gov. Bangor Daily News: Maine designated as federal ‘tech hub’ for forest products. “A Maine government and business consortium has been awarded the federal designation of ‘tech hub’ for the development of the state’s forest bioproducts sector. The entity recognized by the Biden-Harris administration is called Forest Bioproducts Advanced Manufacturing Tech Hub. Missoulian: Montana officials giddy over state's selection as 'tech hub'. “The details about actual long-term economic benefits that may come to pass are a bit vague, but the top elected officials in Montana are touting Monday’s announcement that the state has been selected as a “regional tech hub” by the federal Economic Development Administration.
