Schumer: Latest Trump Admin Action In Texas v. U.S. Proves President Trump Still Wants To Take Away Americans’ Pre-Existing Condition Protections And Jack Up Health Care Costs

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement after the Justice Department filed its brief in the Texas v. United States case, asking the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to strike down the entirety of the Affordable Care Act:

“The Trump administration’s brief arguing that the ACA is unconstitutional is heartless and wrong.  Any Republican in Congress who refuses to oppose the DOJ’s action is complicit in their efforts to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions and strip away health care from millions of American families.

“This action only proves President Trump and his Department of Justice would rather make political points than defend our health care law that protects the 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions, has provided tens of millions more Americans with health insurance coverage, and has lowered prescription drug costs for millions of seniors. President Trump wants to take all of that away from the American people, jacking up health care costs and leaving millions without coverage.”
