Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor to condemn the Republican rescissions package as a “dark day for America.” Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks:

This is a dark day for America, a dark day for rural Americans, a dark day for any American who relies on public broadcasting during floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other disasters.

And this is also a dark day for this chamber. Everyone here knows this is not how the Senate should function.

I urge my colleagues to vote no.
