El Nuevo Herald– Who does the tax plan benefit?
By: Benjamín F. Deyurre
December 4, 2017
The tax reform bill in the Senate has just been approved by a minimal difference in votes. Now it must be reconciled with the version approved in the House of Representatives and then sent to President Trump, who with his signature would sign the bill into law. According to the latest reports by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), a non-partisan entity, those who earn more than $100,000 a year will benefit the most from this plan. In contrast, those who earn less than $30,000 will be the hardest hit by 2019. The CBO even predicts that those who earn less than $40,000 by 2021 and less than $75,000 by 2027 will also be affected by this new tax plan.
LINK

El Nuevo Herald– In Our Opinion: A flawed tax reform bill
By: Editorial Board
November 30, 2017
The Congressional Budget Office has expressed a reality that Republicans do not want to understand, but is one they should seriously consider: their latest tax reform bill would trigger an increase in the deficit and drastically reduce the number of Americans with health insurance. A lot of Republicans have spent this year bashing the Congressional Budget Office, although it is a non-partisan entity tasked with projecting how different bills would affect the nation, and it is led by a director who was appointed by Republicans. The latest report from the Congressional Budget Office confirmed that the tax bill in the Senate would create a $1.4 trillion deficit, under the best of circumstances. Passing this tax bill is a huge mistake that is going to harm the majority of Americans.
LINK

Univision – How the tax reform bill could eliminate nearly one million affordable homes over the next decade
By: Kriston Capps
December 5, 2017
If we look closely at the Senate bill, it's hard to see any evidence that Republicans in Congress see the tax code as a way to solve the affordable housing crisis. That is a difference between the current tax reform bill and the last initiative that took place in 1986, which used tax incentives to encourage developers to build safe and affordable housing. The tax reform bill of 2017 does not include any ideas to make homes more affordable. Instead, Congress could only worsen the problem by transferring wealth to the rich and perpetuating greater income inequality.
LINK

Diario Las Americas – Trump's tax reform would not be so positive
December 5, 2017
Different experts are saying that if the tax reform bill backed by President Trump becomes law, the consequences it would have on the economy may be uncertain. The most clear explanation of what the tax reform plan could do to the economy is likely what New York University finance professor Aswath Damodaran has said. He revealed to Yahoo Finance in January 2017 that "the tax code is a bludgeon. When you change the tax code trying to make companies do the right thing, you almost always have a law of unintended consequences.”
LINK

By: Maria Peña

Latinos lose under this new bill. Samantha Vargas Poppe, Associate Director of the Policy Analysis Center at "UnidosUS" (formerly the National Council of La Raza), says that, according to her analysis, over the next decade, 11.7 million Hispanic families with incomes under $ 75,000 will see an increase in taxes, which equated to 7 out of 10 Latino families. More specifically, three million Latino businesses will see a tax increase of more than $10,000 per year because of the elimination of certain tax deductions.

Associated Press - Republicans learned to love fiscal deficit
By: Josh Boak
December 2, 2017

Republicans, once champions of fiscal responsibility, have become champions of the deficit. When did it happen? Over the next decade, the tax reform bill Republicans in the Senate approved at dawn will add $ 1 trillion to the national debt. This would be in addition to the $10 trillion in deficit the Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan entity, has already predicted will amount over the next decade. As a percentage of the economy, the national debt would reach levels not seen since World War II.

LINK
