The Administration’s Budget Underfunds Critical Programs that Address the Virus

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, today released a report detailing how President Trump’s budget underfunds the programs that combat the spreading of coronavirus. The report can be found here.

“I am deeply concerned that President Trump has no plan to fight the serious coronavirus crisis. President Trump’s inadequate funding request to address coronavirus comes a few weeks after his administration proposed a 16 percent cut to the Centers for Disease Control, a critical leader in fighting infectious diseases. Cuts to essential programs like the Infectious Diseases Rapid Response Reserve Fund leave Americans vulnerable and unprepared. We need real leadership from the White House to work on a bipartisan basis to keep our loved ones safe and prevent the global spread of this disease,” said Senator Stabenow.

There are more than 80,000 confirmed cases of the 2019 coronavirus (COVID19) worldwide. Unfortunately, President Trump’s budget, if enacted, would cut several public health programs that are being used to stop the spread of infectious diseases like coronavirus.
