DPCC Report: Mexico Isn’t Paying For The Wall…Our Service Members And Their Families Are

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, today released a report that shows how Republicans are allowing critical funding for military construction projects—including schools and daycares—to be taken away so that President Trump can fund his border wall.

“Republicans are abandoning constituents back home to fund President’s Trump unnecessary border wall,” said Stabenow. “No new middle school at Kentucky’s Fort Campbell, no new fire-rescue station at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, and the list goes on. Our military service members and their families deserve better.”

“President Trump promised Mexico would pay for his expensive, ill-conceived border wall – instead, he is forcing our children, our service members, and our communities to foot the bill,” said Leader Schumer. “Senate Democrats are determined to right this wrong through the appropriations process and by reversing the president’s emergency declaration, and it’s on our Republican colleagues to join us to block these harmful cuts to military families.”

By the Numbers:

$3.6 billion- The amount of money that will be cancelled from military construction projects across the United States and around the world

26- The number of states and territories that will be hurt by this decision

127- The number of military construction projects on the Administration’s hit list

$63 million- The amount of money Mitch McConnell is allowing to be cancelled from the construction of Fort Campbell Middle School in Kentucky, a new school for 552 students, in order to build less than three miles of border wall

$558 million- The total amount of money the Administration is taking away from schools in the U.S. and in other countries, hurting the children and students of military families
