Leader Schumer Statement Applauding The Supreme Court’s Decision To Uphold A Bedrock American Principle And Ensure Every Vote Cast On Time Will Count

New York, N.Y. – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement after the Supreme Court upheld a core American principle that states are allowed to count mail-in ballots arriving after election day as long as they were mailed on time:

“The Supreme Court just upheld this bedrock American principle: if you cast your ballot on time, your vote will count.

“Participation in democracy should never be limited – not by your race, where you live, or how you vote.

“As the midterm elections approach, Trump and his allies are working overtime to silence Americans’ votes. Senate Democrats will continue to do everything we can to protect free and fair elections, where everyone’s voice is heard.”
