Leader Schumer Statement After FBI Foiled Alleged ISIS-Inspired Attack On New York State Capitol
New York, N.Y. – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement after the FBI arrested a woman who allegedly plotted an ISIS-inspired attack on the New York State Capitol building in Albany:
“The alleged ISIS-inspired plot targeting the New York State Capitol building in Albany is deeply troubling. The same groups who attacked us more than two decades ago are still inspiring attacks today, and we must remain vigilant.
“My office has been in touch with the FBI and has requested the FBI examine any potential ties between this individual and ISIS. I’m grateful to local, state, and federal law enforcement partners who worked diligently to prevent what could have been a devastating attack.
“Mere weeks before the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, this is a stark reminder that we must do everything we can to ensure all Americans are protected from any threats and acts of violence, including fully funding counterterrorism programs.
“New Yorkers know all too well the generational harm that terrorism can inflict on our communities, and my thoughts are with them as we continue to root out threats and keep communities safe.”
