As Costs Crush Families And Corruption Runs Rampant, Republicans Refuse To Outlaw Trump’s Slush Fund & Rubberstamp Another $70 Billion To ICE And Border Patrol

Schumer: “Now The Whole Country Can See The Truth: Republicans Fought Like Hell To Protect Donald Trump And His Slush Fund But Didn’t Lift A Finger To Help Working Americans Lower Their Costs.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, Senate Republicans passed their party-line reconciliation legislation, which authorizes $70 billion more in funding for ICE and Border Patrol — while voting down every single Democratic amendment aimed at lowering costs for American families and blocking Trump’s insurrectionist slush fund.

As Americans across the country are being forced to choose what bills they can afford, Republicans not only greenlit $70 billion for ICE and Border Patrol – who are already sitting on more than $100 billion – but also chose to enable Trump’s corruption and block Democrats’ attempts to kill Trump’s slush fund and self-dealing. Donald Trump and Republicans have shown that the American taxpayer is simply an ATM for them and their far-right agenda, and Democrats fought to expose their failed policies and deliver relief for working families.

Vote after vote, Democrats forced Republicans to show the American people where they stand: with them or with Donald Trump and the billionaire class.

Tonight was a night of contrasts.

• Democrats: Fighting for American families and to lower the skyrocketing costs of living
• Republicans: More money for an out-of-control police force and a slush fund for Donald Trump’s cronies and cop-beating insurrectionists

“After tonight’s vote, it’s clear to Americans that Republicans refused to outlaw Donald Trump’s $2 billion slush fund,” said Leader Schumer. “Now the whole country can see the truth: Republicans fought like hell to protect Donald Trump and his slush fund but didn’t lift a finger to help working Americans lower their costs. Senate Republicans tried to bury their radical agenda in the dead of night, but Democrats forced them to answer for it — amendment after amendment, vote after vote. Republicans voted against building 7 million new affordable homes, against lowering gas prices, against cracking down on health insurance companies that deny Americans coverage, against making childcare more affordable, and so much more. Again and again, Republicans chose Trump instead. While families are struggling to get ahead, Senate Republicans just voted to help Trump bleed them dry.”

Among the amendments Republicans BLOCKED tonight were ones that would:

• Kill the MAGA slush fund
• Lower Medicaid costs
• Lowering the cost of childcare
• Preventing ICE abuses from going unchecked
• Establish commonsense ICE and CBP reforms
• Prohibiting payouts to January 6^th insurrectionists

Bottom line: Republicans chose the Trump’s wants tonight over American families’ needs.

• If adopted, Trump's slush fund is dead. Provide the Senate's clearest test yet of whether Republicans are willing to end a scheme many have publicly expressed concerns about.

• The Tillis amendment is a bait and switch. It doesn’t stop Trump’s slush fund — it hands Trump and Vance $1.7B more to go after their enemies and punish blue states under the banner of “fraud enforcement.”

• Bans the use of federal funds or private donations for Trump’s gilded ballroom absent congressional approval.

5. Ossoff – Motion to Commit: Hold Health Insurance Companies Accountable
• Would send the bill back to the Judiciary Committee to investigate insurance companies denying and delaying patients the care they need
6. Motion to Waive Budget Act W/R/T Hassan #5535 – Build 7 Million New Affordable Homes
• Would fund the largest federal grant program for state and local governments to create more affordable housing—the Home Investment Partnerships Program—to close the housing gap.

• Would prohibit any Senate-confirmed head of any other Federal agency or department to perform the role of DNI in an acting capacity

• Would prohibit the use of federal funds to pay individuals, like Tina Peters, who were convicted of crimes related to election interference.
10. Motion to Waive Budget Act W/R/T Kim #5545 – Stop the cruelty at an immigration detention center
• Requires an unannounced inspection of Delaney Hall which will produce a report and a recommendation as to whether charges should be brought for wrongdoing; Holds funds for Delaney Hall until infractions have been remedied and a report has been sent to Congress.
11. Warnock Motion to Commit - Make sure those entitled to Medicaid get their coverage
• Would require the Federal Government to investigate the causes of loss or denial of Medicaid coverage to eligible beneficiaries and release of all such information to the public.
12. Motion to Waive Budget Act W/R/T Sanders #5451 – Get dark money out of politics
• Ends the ability of Super PACs to raise unlimited sums of money by capping contributions to Super PACs at $5,000.
13. Motion to Waive Budget Act W/R/T Baldwin #5485 - Lower Child Care Costs
• Reallocates ICE funding to the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG).
14. Motion to Waive Budget Act W/R/T Booker #5803 - Improve ICE Oversight
• Funds the Office of Immigration Detention Ombudsman (OIDO) and withholds funds from private detention facilities until they implement recommendations made by OIDO as a result of finding misconduct, excessive force, or violations of law or detention standards.

19. Peters #5763 – Claw Back Unused ICE/CBP Funds
• Rescinds the unspent money – approximately $100 billion – from the Homeland and Judiciary titles of Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
20. Gallego #5663 – Protect Dreamers
• Redirects billions from violent DHS immigration enforcement to process DACA renewals and work authorizations
21. Padilla #5511 – Require Body Cameras on ICE Agents
• Would require funding to be used to equip ICE agents with body cameras while engaging in any enforcement activities & make the footage accessible to Congress and subjects of the footage. Would prevent other funding from being spent until cameras are actually rolled out.
22. Motion to Waive Budget Act W/R/T Coons #5457 - No Slush Fund Payments to Cop-Beaters
• Prohibits payments from Trump’s slush fund to January 6^th insurrectionists convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers, and requires those trying to receive payment through the slush fund to pay a filing fee.
