After Democrats Force 14th Vote To Stop Iran War, Schumer Slams Republicans For Caving To Trump’s Recklessness

After 200+ Days Of War And Skyrocketing Costs, Senate Republicans Rubber-Stamp Trump’s $43+ Billion War In Iran

Washington D.C. – As Trump’s war with Iran stretched past 200 days, Senate Republicans rubber-stamped Trump’s costly & chaotic war after Democrats forced a vote on a War Powers Resolution for the 14th time.

After more than 200 days of Trump’s war in Iran – a war that has resulted in the death of at least 19 servicemembers, cost taxpayers more than $43 billion by the most conservative of estimates , and sent gas prices skyrocketing – Senate Democrats gave Republicans yet another chance to vote to end Trump’s chaotic and costly war. For the 14th time, Senate Democrats forced a vote to end the war and bring our troops home. Senate Republicans blocked it, rubber-stamping every horrific cost of this war.

“Senate Republicans voted down today’s War Powers Resolution and once again own the exorbitant cost this war has placed on Americans at home and abroad,” said Leader Schumer. “From the start, I’ve said that this war is bigger than politics -- yet Senate Republicans continue to put party over people, and now Americans are stuck with skyrocketing gas prices, soaring grocery bills, and chaos on the global stage. Americans will remember who voted to end Trump’s war today – just as they will remember who voted for the war to continue time and time and time again for seven long months.”

Senate Democrats have been fighting to end this war since the day it began, forcing vote after vote to reassert Congressional power and bring home our troops. But Senate Republicans continue to show complete fealty to Trump and block its passage. The American people are crying out for relief – just 31% support US military action against Iran – but Republicans cowardly continue to support the administration’s efforts.
