TRANSCRIPT: At A Press Conference, Leader Schumer Underscores The “Clear Contrast” Between Senate Democrats’ Vision For American Families And Republicans’ Devastating Costs, Chaos, And Corruption

Washington, D.C. – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke at a press conference underscoring how Senate Democrats have spent the past two years fighting back against the Trump administration’s costs, chaos, and corruption. Folks, we Dems have the wind in our sails heading into October and the final stretch.

We've spent months drawing a clear contrast and defining the choice for Americans as they call out for help. Democrats have focused on lowering costs, ending the Iran War, protecting elections, strengthening accountability. Republicans have spent the last two years defending the devastating Trump agenda.

Americans are frustrated with higher costs and a government they don't believe is working for them. Senate Democrats have worked together to block some of the worst Trump's GOP had to throw at the American people.

On costs, we have fought Trump's horrendous tariffs in court and won. We have voted to end Trump's war 14 times and stopped [the] GOP from writing a blank check for the war. We have fought to restore a trillion dollars in cuts to health care and food assistance that Trump used to pay for billionaire tax cuts, and many other things we have fought for.

On chaos and corruption, we established an Election Protection Task Force to fight Trump's war on free and fair elections. We exposed Trump's family grift after his family profited $4 billion in two years. We saw his $400 million luxury jet and all other misdealings. We have fought his vanity projects galore, the ballroom, the Trump-class battleships, the arch, the reflecting pool, and all of it. We killed Trump's $2 billion MAGA slush fund to give taxpayer dollars to Trump and January 6th insurrectionists. We have fought Trump with every tool available to the minority. And here we see what has happened under Trump, rising costs on groceries, on housing, on gas, on utilities, on health care, on childcare, and on education.

But there are certain things that you cannot do without the majority. If you want to lower costs, end the war, put real checks on this administration, control of the Senate greatly matters.

So, in closing, the [past] two years have been extremely hard for this country. Soaring costs, millions losing health care, masked agents gunning down Americans, a disastrous foreign war bogging our country down.

We're fighting Trump tooth and nail on every front. But we're the first to recognize that stopping the worst isn't enough. We are ready to hit the ground running, to lower costs, rein in chaos, stop the corruption.
