A Budget That Delivers ChangeApril 1, 2009 — Senators Dick Durbin, Sheldon Whitehouse, Benjamin L. Cardin, and Robert Casey were joined Thursday by community leaders and American workers rallying in support of the Democratic budget proposal. The new Democratic Congress inherited a record Republican deficit and the worst economic crisis in generations, but are working to strengthen the economy by creating jobs and providing critical investments in health care, education, and renewable energy. “It's time for change,” Florine Jones, a social worker from Maryland, told the crowd. “Big, bold smart change that takes America in a fundamentally new direction. That's what President Obama promised us. That's why we voted for him. And that's what he's delivering with this budget.”
